Thoughts on Maplestory Worlds/Project Mod?

theres one open to other game devs as well project mod wings2022, the game created if im not wrong will be published there as well

its pretty nice tho but theres not many international devs mainly still korean devs in this

But, I guarantee the content creator maintains no rights to the content they create.

Besides the questionable legal and ethical implications of using 3rd party contributors to create content, the project thematically shows that the organization isn't aligned and doesn't understand the factors that lead to their original success. MapleStory isn't amazing because it's a competitor to platform and flash-based games. It's held a place in our memories because of the community and friendly environment that the world fostered. Translating that experience into fragmented one-off implementations is contrary to everything the brand represents, and simply is just a lazy re-implementation of assets.

 

Idk why all these companies think they can go all in on their own universe, look at Facebook/Meta and how they are bleeding billions because they thought they could be the pioneers of VR technology with their own metaverse. Their stock halved in value, not to mention all the money in their coffers that could have been used for something useful like a new service. Neckson shouldn't be trying to oversaturate their own IP, they should be investing in newer and different IP.

They are also gonna introduce a crypto game at the downturn of this crypto cycle, which is absolutely insane, there isn't a single crypto game that isn't worthless or a scam. And all these big companies that try to push NFT's of their own IP's end up faltering.

The user generated content is interesting. Tons of amazing games with user generated content, just look at Mario Maker, Skyrim Mods, Minecraft, etc. If the audience is big enough and the tools are there the community could churn out interesting things.

Like they have all these cool 2d sprites and assets and its a really goood basis to make something like this. Even back in the day people made their characters in BannedStory and then made youtube videos with stories involving those characters etc.

Definitely looking forward to the inevitable fucked up jump quests that will be created. Also apparently people are already recreating old school maplestory in it lol.

 

Think its good. Look at WoW and their classic servers, it was a huge success that keeps players playing to this day
