Quick MP Washing Guide (for mages)
    by: ApplePie

    Introduction
Hello friends, it's me again! ApplePie! I currently feel like procrastinating so I wrote this guide. (And also because I don't see it on the guide list) This is from a mage's point of view (POV), reader discretion is advised.

    But... why? (insert: ryanreynolds.gif)
    1) If you find yourself out of breath all the time, and need more MP to cast skills.
    2) Mages: more MP means you can tank more hits with magic guard + at 4th job, you can cast more Ultimates before you pot up = saves pots. Using your ultimate eats up lots of MP, leaving you vulnerable to attacks.
Arch mages especially "need" MP washing, as we have a skill in 3rd job that doubles MP usage for 1.5x (?) the magic skill power. That means for a level 20 Ultimate in 4th job (like Meteor or Blizzard), you'll use up a whopping 8,000 MP per cast. That's like, 80% of your MP at level 12x without MP washing.

TL;DR: MP washing is for the elite who want to up their game and save pot money

    What do I do?
    1) After every level, add all 5 AP points into your MP.
    • remember to wear as many INT equips as you can when you level AND when you add the 5 AP points into MP. The more INT equips you have on, the more INT you put in.
    2) Buy 5 AP resets and take all 5 AP points out of MP and into your desired stat.
    • In Maple Legends, the AP reset says that it takes away 90+ mp per reset, but if you do the math, it actually only removes 30 mp per AP reset.
"Um ApplePie, That does not logically make sense, what do you mean when you say put points in MP and take it back out? Isn't that counter intuitive?"
ONLY USE FRESH AP FROM LEVELING, DON'T ADD IN MP FROM AP RESETS!

    When do I start?
Whenever you want, preferably when you can afford to. I personally started when I was at about level 130 and I currently have about 25,500 MP at level 161 (includes MP equips), whereas another unwashed arch mage at lv163 has about 14,000MP. A good time might be lv120, as you'll have much more base INT to work with.

    Notes
Credits go to CHIHAYA for introducing me to this concept.
Thanks to LionheartLionheart for the clarifications!

I guess it could, but unlike MP washing, you wouldn't be able to get an HP bonus off equips. You'd just be using the skill "Improving Max HP Increase" which is limited to warriors and brawlers.

Haven't tried it so can't confirm

Nice short & simple guide! Some SSes for specific steps would also be nice.

Ok, a few mistakes I want to point out:

First, I'd try to clarify that if you have higher MP, you are harder to kill simply by virtue of not accidentally overspending your MP and not having enough for magic guard. By itself, more MP will not make you tougher. It only absorbs 80% damage, so this means the max amount of damage you can take is 5x your HP.

Also the increase max MP skill doesn't help when you wash. Yes, it increases your MP more when you add AP. But it also removes the same amount when you reset that AP. Therefore, it helps to give you a bit more MP from natural leveling, but when it comes to MP washing, it cancels itself out.

I would also put an explicit warning to never try to MP wash by using AP resets because it doesn't work.

When you add fresh AP from a level, you get 12~20 + skill level + int/10 MP.
When you remove that AP, it removes 20 + skill level MP. So 30, typically.
If you add AP from doing a reset (say you take it from int and put it to MP) you only get 12 MP. Or was it 22 counting the skill? I tried it once but forget.

Either way, it simply doesn't work and should not be done.

I noticed that this guide recommends to "equip" int gear before attempting to MP wash. In old maplestory, I know that mp washing only works off of base INT. Was maplelegends coded differently to allow MP washing to work off total INT (base int + int from equips)?

Sry for necro this, but I curious about this too.
I'm not sure if the way it work in ML is the same as GMS.

So I have some question here.

    1. When we lv up,
amount of additional MP is increased by 'INT'
but is it mean 'Total INT'?
    - Base + Equips .. + Buff like MW?
    (Or it's just Base+Equip INT)

    2. When we put ap point into MP,
is the additional amount increase the same way as we lv up
    (Or it's just Base INT)

Just wondering if these formulas still apply. I just tried mp washing a lvl 56 mage mule and this is what's happening
Adding 1 fresh AP to MP = +67 mp
AP reset taking out 1 AP from MP = -58 mp (not the 30 mp stated on this thread)

The AP reset window will show -58 (or whatever depending on your int) but if you actually do it it will only take 30 mp away.
