What is New Leaf?​

New Leaf is an experimental group ironman challenge on MapleLegends with a community-enforced ruleset. The aim of the project is to play the game as if it were the first time any group of players ever played MapleLegends, with a few added restrictions to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Rulebook​

0. The Player List is a list of all participating characters in the New Leaf challenge. In order to have your character added to the Player List, you must submit your registration to a challenge administrator. Once approved, your character will be added to the list.

0.1. Your application should contain the following items:
- Character name
- A screenshot with:

- Proof of Level 1, preferably at the very first map of the game
- Proof of 0 NX (@checkstats command in-game)
- Timestamp (@time command in-game)

Spoiler: Example Registration

* You are strongly encouraged to create your New Leaf character(s) on a fresh account.

0.2. If you already have a character on the Player List, and want to add another, you must only provide proof that your new character is on the same account as a character on the list.

- Clarification: You may begin playing as soon as you send in your registration. You do not need to wait for approval or admission to the Player List to begin playing your character. For this reason, make sure your registration screenshot contains all the necessary information, so that there is not an issue after you have already begun playing your character.​

1. You may not in any way obtain items or mesos from players who are not on the Player List. This includes:

- Trading with a non-challenge player directly
- Looting items off the ground from a non-challenge player, or looting items off the ground when you don't know where they came from
- Buying from any Free Market shop
- Receiving packages from Duey
- Receiving Cash Shop gifts from a non-challenge player (via Maple Points won from events)
- Any other unmentioned method that enables you to receive items or mesos that were not generated within the New Leaf player ecosystem​

1.1. If you or your pet mistakenly pick up or obtain any items or mesos in a way that violates this rule, discard them immediately.

1.2. You may not set up a Free Market shop at any time for any reason.

1.3. One-way trades are allowed, as long as they do not bring any items or mesos into the challenge ecosystem from outside. You may trade items and mesos to a character outside of the challenge, as long as they trade nothing in return, but once they have left, items or mesos cannot come back for any reason.

1.4. You may transfer items and mesos between your challenge characters on the same account using the in-game storage functionality.

2. You may not party with players who are not on the Player List. Currently, there are no exceptions to this rule. If an exception is added, this rule will be updated to reflect it.

2.1. You may not join any expeditions with players who are not on the Player List.

2.2. You may not join in any unmentioned gameplay-affecting group or run with players who are not on the Player List, unless stated otherwise.

2.3. Please try your best to avoid killing mobs that have been damaged by non-challenge players - this is not in the spirit of the challenge. Obviously this doesn't matter if it's a mob you'd vaporize anyway, like a basic snail.

2.4. Make sure you don't obtain a non-challenge player's Echo of Hero by accident. If you do, you can cancel the buff by right clicking on it.

2.5. GM buffs are fair game.

3. You may not engage in miscellaneous gameplay-affecting interactions with players who are not on the Player List. This includes:

- Using any Teleport Rock or equivalent to warp to a non-challenge character
- Marrying a non-challenge character
- Any other unmentioned miscellaneous gameplay-affecting activity​

- Clarification: You may join an outside guild, though you are strongly encouraged to join the New Leaf challenge guild to keep connected with other challenge participants.

3.1 Receiving fame from and trading fame with non-challenge players is allowed.​

4. Any form of multi-clienting within the challenge is forbidden. You may not play more than one challenge character simultaneously.

4.1. You may multi-client with one New Leaf character and any number of non-challenge characters, i.e. playing normal MapleLegends is allowed while you play your New Leaf character on a single client.

4.2. You may not multi-client to access storage mules. If you wish to create a storage mule, please create it on the same account as your challenge character(s) and access it via the in-game storage system. If you are using a character solely for storage, that character does not need to be added to the Player List.​

5. If you are found to be violating the challenge rules, one of two actions will be taken depending on the severity of your violation:

- You will be warned and asked to remediate your violation of the rules, e.g. by destroying an illegitimate item.
- You will be removed from the Player List, effectively disqualifying you from the challenge by preventing you from partying or trading with New Leaf players indefinitely.​

6. The 'NewLeaf' guild has been established to contain all or most players participating in the challenge. Membership in the guild is equivalent to placement on the Player List.

- The guild has been pre-made for the benefit of the challenge, and possesses the maximum number of player slots. While creating the guild itself would have been a novel aspect of the challenge, I decided that players would be better off being fully connected from the very beginning. The guild emblem will also provide an easy visual way to distinguish who is and who isn't a part of the challenge.

- If you need a guild invite, the best place to ask is on the Discord. Ping the @Jr. Master roll and someone should be available to invite you soon.​

Quick clarifications:

- Gachapon is allowed
- There are no map or job restrictions
- There is no restriction on HP or MP washing (I don't see it being an issue)
- You can play as soon as you send in your registration. You don't need to wait for it to be approved to begin playing. Just make sure you GET IT RIGHT!​

I don't want to intimidate you into not cheating - I want to inspire you to make it without cheating!

- Message it to me on Discord (username sku.exe)​

As soon as you've sent in your registration, feel free to start voting and playing! Myself or a Jr. Master will add you to the guild upon request. Just make sure you've read the rules and that your registration contains all the necessary elements, and you're good to begin playing!
