    Beginner, Camper, Islander
Since I've only main Perma-beginner and Islander... here's my thoughts on their differences below. No such thing as "winning" as islander/beginner. Just for meme/fun anyways

This is my lvl50ish perma-beginner with Zhelm:
    https://forum.maplelegends.com/index.php?threads/new-to-being-a-perma-beginner.34702/page-2

    Stats for my islander:
Please refer to my previous posts in this thread.

    Differences of Islanders vs Perma-Beginners:

    Islanders:
    1. One-hit kill all mobs - EPH averages out no matter what equips you use
    - - off-island speed/jump equips does not affect available island EPH gains
    - - this is shown in my previous posts
    - - only Faster 3 (1-handed/daggers less reach) can barely match EPH with the Fast 5 gold surfboard (pole arms have more reach)
    2. No leech
    3. One of each possible mob drop can be collected and hoarded within the 1st week of grinding
    4. HP doesn't matter - 30def total = 1dmg from all island mobs
    - - all armor equips becomes meme/fun
    5. Mob/Event equips all better EPH than smuggled equips
    - - only Gold Surfboard (slimes) or Super Snowboard (Anniversary Event) are best on the island, all other weapons are meme/fun
    - - all off-island equips becomes meme/fun due to ineffectiveness to improving EPH
    6. All other Maps are restricted
    - - Offisland NPC quest rewarded untradeable items will always be unavailable
    7. Scrolling doesn't change meta EPH... only gives equip variety!
    - - DEX/Jump scrolling? EPH doesn't change so why waste the millions of mesos on islanders?
    - - Good scrolls that could be used are: Def scrolls, and Speed, but even then doesn't change EPH
    - - Scroll WATT? meme away, have fun! still... 1-hit killing everything anyways.
    - - Scroll Avoid? I've seen an islander with +100 avoid (they were old luk-lander with Fork (Anniversary Event)) and they still get hit often
    - - I have +50 avoid and still get hit by mobs often
    - - Scroll Acc? Pig and Orange Mushrooms have crazy low avoid, you can hit them 100% with 4 DEX from the start of character creation

    Perma-Beginners:
    1. Two build types ONLY (unless it's an OddJob, then of course its different) - Pure STR, or have Low-DEX + STR
    - - pump INT only if you want to wash
    - - can't kill anything if mobs are stronger
    2. Gold Surfboard lvl15 < Frozen Tuna lvl20 < Super Snowboard lvl50 < Fan lvl65 < Crimson Arcglaive lvl100 < PSB lvl100 < Fan lvl65 + watt Shield
    - - can make use of attack boosting equips
    - - can make use of attack boosting ciders/apples/heart stoppers
    - - DPS is better than EPH, since unable to 1-hit kill level +40 mobs onward unless you get golden scrolled Fast 5 or Faster 3 weapon
    3. Leechable
    4. HP washable - equips necessary to wash
    - - washing is NOT enough, needs Monster Ring Tier 10 for bosses + Event Rings that gives HP
    5. Scrolls needed
    - - improves dex, acc, watt, spd/jump (catch that train/boat ride timer and big maps)
    6. All maps available
    - - NPC quest items can be earned (sometimes untradeable)
    7. HP Potions! :health::health::health:
    - - Did I mention chugging down hundreds of thousands (truly its in the millions range when bossing) of mesos worth of HP potions yet?
    - - Drowning in the amount of HP potion spamming till your fingers hurt, or you get an Auto HP-Potion pet
    8. Three Pets all with HP equips required for bossing.
    9. Zhelm REQUIRED for its high defense when bossing and washing (slightly reduces dmg from bosses... not by much)

As shown, Islanders will never be able to utilize things the same way as Perma-Beginners:
    - - gear/maps/bossing/leech/quests unlockables (rides or items)/wash/scrolls/hp potions
    - - everything Islanders use becomes meme/fun items or "scuffed items"
    - - only a Super Snowboard could be better than a Gold Surfboard, but only slightly since... total speed doesn't affect EPH on island

These are only a few of the many exhaustive distinguishable factors between Islanders vs Perma-Beginners.

Storage would be wonderful to have on the island for meme/fun gearing possibilities that allows for cosmetically appealing exploration!

At first, I was slightly opposed to the idea of adding storage to the island. My main reasoning for starting an islander a few months back was because of the grating meta of perfecting weapons and armor offland. I had a hard time keeping up with endgame content. I considered islanding a grind in which I could sit back and level up without worrying about my equips or anything other than whacking pigs. I didn't want the island to become a place for me to stress about making my items best in slot and all the headache that can come from collecting items and scrolls.

After reading what others have to say, I realize my own reasoning shouldn't stop others from enjoying equips from the outside world. Not only would this create a fun market within the island, I believe it would contribute positively to a community that has been slowly dying out. I am fully in support of adding storage to the island. It wouldn't have to change the way I (or anyone else potentially opposed) play our islanders.

I also realize now that having more items to play around with would be a ton of fun. My friend and I used to joke about hoping for events to scroll a fruit knife with attack and strength because it has such a high attack rate. With this one example in mind, I like to imagine all of the fun islander builds that can be made possible that will still differentiate us from offland beginners. I like the idea of this change. In the end, our little community is what has kept me around more than anything else on the island, and I look forward to meeting more people in the future. Thanks to the people who thought to put this out there. Happy islanding :) :tick:

Okay, I think it's time I write this since most islanders in the community are convincing me to say what my opinions are of having a storage on Maple Island.

I've been a really active islander in the month of October, November, and December. During the Halloween event, there was a Cody NPC that allowed us to access to a different map with an access to the FM through the Trade button. The Cody NPC script implementation being made during this event allowed lots of islanders in our guild to access the FM through this method. I've known about 6 islanders who have smuggled through this method. However, we all thought that this was intentional. Because of this being intentional, it motivated me to grind through levels quickly and allowed me to equip the items I've always wanted. There was an islander friend I've met and he asked how I got the smuggled equips. After telling him what was being implemented during the Halloween event, I gave him some of mine as kindness. However, I didn't like how we as high-leveled islanders are getting their items confiscated. Most of us high-leveled islanders are already one-shotting Pigs and Orange Mushroom, so why take our smuggling items even though we are already enjoying what we have? By taking that enjoyment away, it diminishes the whole islander community because there are still so many other islanders that still have items outside of Maple Island. It stops me from grinding and it is sad to see that so many islanders are also experiencing this.

Look, it's 2021, not 2016 anymore. There's never a time I see islanders online in my guild when I'm always the only one on everyday. I've leveled from 35 to 60 in only 2 months. Everyone needs to grow up and learn that change matters as a major islander myself. Our enjoyment matters more than things remaining unchanged. The longer things remain unchanged, the longer you are alone without the islander community supporting you, without other people supporting you, you don't feel respected, and no one would even care if you are high leveled anyways. Any addition to maple island would be nice, which is why I agree with having a Storage NPC.

That is why we need to FORGET THE PAST and MOVE ON.

Every major change that includes adding newer item drops to every mob in Maple Island for us islanders is motivating for us. For example, you could make a red whip drop from a red snail at a 1/50000 drop rate, one-handed sword scroll 60% from snails at a 1/25000 drop rate, and etc.. Please don't be afraid to make those kinds of changes for us even if it means to some people that don't agree with storage. I do want the staff team to go crazy with changes in maple island to an extent where we are filled with a community that has both the old generation and the new generation of islanders.

For those who are still reading this and aren't fond with this post, I'm very sorry to those who still disagree with me and my suggestions, but for us that agree, the change matters much more to us and to all older islanders. I'm always grinding and supporting all my friends who are giving me the reason to continue islanding. I love them and I also love those that wish to see me grind to the 100 mark. In addition to reaching 100 someday, it will be a video to commemorate and reflect on my personal experience with my fellow islanders.

I don't understand why you want to legitimize cheating/smuggling. It's just not how islanding is supposed to be. It's the biggest antithesis to islanding.

    Dexlander > Fork route
    Magelander > Metal wand meme
    LUKlander > Mittens

Storage will act as a Bishop to what the island needs to bring back these landers.

Have a way to have Fork and Mittens elsewhere and made tradeable put into storage send it to the island, not sure about Magelander though never seen one to actually say anything yet but after seeing an Islander use both Fork and Mittens I'd quite enjoy seeing more of them while that be returning players or new ones.

Metal wand is already on the island it's dropped by red snails. I agree that fork and mittens should make a return or be made tradeable; I would give you mine if I could. It's just that adding storage would be a drastic change to the rules of the game. Staff has said that events in general have been lagging behind because people want different versions of the events each year. With different events come different item pools and we should accept that because events are inherently time-locked or time-oriented. Its unfortunate that you started after certain events but they will probably come back eventually. It's not like old islanders asked for every possible event item to be available right when we started.

Being an islander is a delightful little game, in and of itself, that stays almost completely independent of the main game. The only part that overlaps is scrolling pet equips using mesos off island, but that's still pretty detached. With storage completely opening up the island it won't be it's own separate game, it'll just be some (legitimately at least)inaccessible maps for jobbies.

    So... lets recap...

Islander Meta is unaffected from off-island items:

    EPH/EPM doesn't change:
    - - Any possible Scrolling
    - - Any possible Equipment

    Running from map to map:
    - - use the Myo Myo - Return Scroll to Nearest Town

    Here's some notable Storage Pros/Cons:
    Pros
    1. Off-island items as cosmetic appearance changes (not stuck with NX equip appearances)
    2. Revival of dead-meta of:
    Dexlander > Fork route
Magelander > Metal wand meme (transfer over red shells, otherwise need a GUILD to give THOUSANDS of red shells)
    LUKlander > Mittens
    3. Nothing is "illegal/smuggled" anymore

    4. Faster to get Normal Maplers off the island back to Victory Island
    5. Allows for earlier washing by Normal Maplers

    Cons
    1. too much gear to select from for cosmetic purposes

    2. level 1 HP Washing = bad? (but... helps with HP Washing up to tanking HT/Pink Bean)

What is the definitive definition of being an Islander... just only being able to wear Event/mob equips + scrolls?
    -
or is it something more than that?
    - is it the nostalgia feel of seeing no off-island equips?

    - would it be better to only allow scrolls to be taken out of Storage by islanders to preserve appearance of equips?

I realize that storage would bring about good things, but its not worth changing the fundamental idea of islanding. Even with events giving non-vanilla items the core idea is that you live off only what the island presently has.

I didn't say I would legitimize cheating. It's not cheating if it was intentional (which I thought it was even though I've talked to several islanders about it during the Halloween event). Since smuggling is still against the rules, they would have to manually check every islander to see who has an item besides maple island drops. This kind of system is very hard to manage, yet it concerns us a lot. Too many islanders have smuggled, yet most of them have not been banned or caught. Some are also ignored as well. Let's be honest here, most of the players and the staff here don't care about us anymore because they have bigger issues to deal with other than us. We are dead for a very long time, so smuggling doesn't matter to us anymore. We became "ghosts" and so are the newer islanders that only spend like few days or a week of island, then gave up. The whole reason that "storage" is brought up is to revive the community with new sets of changes. We are all open to any kind of changes, but we all want to enjoy gameplay with other new islanders as well. I understand that it's been asked so many times, but we just want to explore more ways of enjoying the island.

There's nothing wrong by implementing storage and trying it out first to see what feedback we have over a couple of months or two. I strongly encourage that a change should happen. If something doesn't work out, we can always suggest another idea that can re-sort the issue. We are all in this together and we all want islanding to be welcome for everyone, especially for the veterans themselves.

Has private servers been your first experience with Islanders, or maybe Islanders outside of GMS Scania was different?

I've dipped my toes in islanding back in 2008 and decided to really get into it back in 2010. The Islander community I witnessed (GMS Scania) was full of smugglers, hackers, MTS users (whether they were buying with IRL money or selling stacks of leather to afford cheap speed gear), remote gachapon, & ITCG. There surely were purist that only liked to use the independence day hat, maple items, & roses, but the vast majority of us would take anything we could get our gruby hands on, by any means necessary. A lot of the islanders that I've seen stick around come from the community I mentioned above, which is why you might be seeing more positive feedback to this change than negative.

Personally I'm very sick of the event meta that the two most popular PS's have had and would be excited to see something different that also retains an islander population. I've tried playing the true vanilla experience for something new, but sadly practically nobody wanted to share that experience with me as they were attached to their items.

Regardless of what the community might have been, they know in their hearts what true islanding is I'm sure. I didn't play gms island but I had a friend irl who did and he would me all about how it goes and what items he would go for.

I really don't care about who has smuggled or not, or if they get punished even. I don't care if smuggling goes on forever, I just don't want it to become some easy thing to do.

I don't think there is any particular way to play a "true islander" or be a "true islander" nor can it be defined. I'm sure the way/why me and & SaltSalt have played Islanders are very different than from the way iLovKimberlyiLovKimberly & CrimsonClawCrimsonClaw play. I particularly have zero interest in helping new players, communicating with them, or handing out MY PRECIOUS RED SNAIL SHELLS! But from what I've observed with Tsuki & Crimson, they seem to play their Islander solely around helping new players, giving them anything they need, & informing them. I'm sure there is a lot of overlap between what people like/why they play, but I don't believe there is any one way a person should be playing.

Sorry if I'm wrong Tsuki & Crimson!

Well maybe the only true islander was the very first one ever then. You know what I mean though, the concept of an islander is pretty cut and dry.

I understand what you want, but for a bunch of the people I've played, an islander storage would have been a wet dream.

I would say the most basic concept of being an islander would be staying on maple island, but even that didn't apply to a bunch of people lmao.

Okay so the basic concept of being an islander is staying on maple island. But why do we stay on maple island? Its for the exclusivity of the main game aspects such as jobs, high level items, questing, bossing, making money, etc.
