MacOS Installation Guide for Apple Silicon
So you just got a brand new Apple Silicon MacBook and want to play MapleLegends with your friends, but you've run into issues with Crossover/Wineskin. Parallels works, but isn't free. Luckily for you though, VMware Fusion is!

Installation time: ~ 30-40 minutes

Make a Broadcom Account
Now that Broadcom owns VMware, you have to make a Broadcom account

Click here to register with Broadcom

Download and Install VMware Fusion Pro for Personal Use

Click here

When Prompted for a License Key, select the option for personal use

Installing a Windows 11 Virtual Machine

Select the Installation Method

Get Windows from Microsoft

This is probably going to take like 15-20 minutes depending on your internet connection

Choose Firmware

UEFI

Configuration

Enter a password for encryption

Choose Virtual Disk

Create a new virtual disk

Finish

Woohoo! You now have a windows virtual machine to play your favorite game MapleLegends!

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you're getting a Black screen with Time out... and -> EFI Network...

You're taking too long to press a key. Restart the Virtual machine, click into the VM and press all the buttons

Increase resources to the VM
This is necessary to prevent lag and reduce latency and input delay. Feel free to allocate more Processors and Memory to the VM (Even if VMWare is telling you to stop)

Virtual Machine > Settings > Processors & Memory

Install Windows

Activate Windows

You can be a good person and buy Windows

Or just click [I don't have a product key]

And you will forever have some text in the bottom right of your VM

Windows Setup

Operating System

Doesn't matter especially for gaming purposes

Which type of installation do you want?

Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)

Where do you want to Install Windows?

There should only be one available option

Once Windows is installed, complete the next steps on your own

ie: Country/Keyboard Layout/Etc

Microsoft Account lol

Pin

Feel free to skip all of Microsoft's Ads...

After you're done, Windows will Update

Install MapleLegends on VM
MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE WINDOWS VERSION

Install Visual Studio C++ 2015

Download Here MAKE SURE IT IS x86

You will need this on your VM or else it won't run

Install MapleLegends

I'm Lagging/Freezing

Make sure pet's "Item Pouch" is unequipped

We're not sure why this is impacting VM windows. Even picking up etc manually can sometimes cause a lot of lag

Meso pouch is OK

[option + enter] to full screen for bosses[/SPOILER]

TURN OFF/DISABLE Windows Defender!

As Mac users, we're not used to our OS deleting files from our computer for fun

MapleLegends sometimes has issues running HDClient=2

This is because even though you're on a windows VM, your hardware is still a Mac

Change this setting in the Legends.ini

Control + Command - Move mouse outside of the Virtual Machine

Option + Enter - Full screen Maple, without this you might not see your HP/MP bar

Turn off Sticky keys guide

This works! I was able to run MapleLegends on my 14" M1 Pro. Took some time to download and setup windows, but the setup process is fairly straight forward! Thank you so much for the instructions!

Now that some time has passed, is anyone using this solution on a regular basis? It was very easy to get this solution set up, however it doesn't appear to be a stable solution (at least for me). It's a hit or a miss day by day whether or not the application will open in VMWare. I've also had some extreme lag spikes (such as the frame freezing for 1 to 5 seconds) every few minutes while trying to sell leech.

However, I can't quite seem to consistently replicate any of the above issues.

I use it on a daily basis actually, so there are some quirks for sure:
1. Item pouch WILL cause you to lag/dc if there are a lot of items on the map. It’s probably better to just keep it unequipped
2. If you’re bossing and the screen freezes, hit “alt enter” to go into fullscreen, and that should fix your issue. I’ve run a few zak’s and a HT on mac M1 using vmware

it is a bit janky for sure, but i find that it works pretty well and is fairly lagless

I’ve also heard crossover 24 works on M1. I haven’t gotten around to testing that yet, but hopefully soon!

Should be fixed! I had a couple issues with some images not wanting to upload to the forums :| so I lost a couple, let me know if there's some confusion now

Yeah… unfortunately with Broadcom taking over, i’m not sure yet. I haven’t dug into the new service yet unfortunately

VMWare Fusion Pro was made 100% free for personal use as of May 13th 2024. You need to make a Broadcom account first, but you can still get the full application.

Additional but highly recommended step: Bypass Microsoft Account Login Requirement

NOTE: Windows must not already be installed for these tips to work. If you are doing a new install, proceed...

Step 1: Disconnect Network Adapter in VMWare Settings
At the top of the window, click on the icon, and then then click "Network Adapter". Afterwards, simply de-select "Connect Network Adapter" like the following example. You can do this while Windows is currently installing:

Step 2: When Setup begins, don't do anything in Setup just yet, but press "SHIFT+F10" (On a Mac, you may need to press "SHIFT+Fn+F10") to open Command Prompt. Once open, type "oobe\bypassnro", just like in the following screenshot example, and press enter. Windows will now restart...

Step 3: Setting up a local user account
After Windows Restarts, Setup will be back again. The past two steps were to simply turn off your internet to Windows, and to enable the following button, "I don't have internet". Press it, just like in the example below. If you don't see this button, then you didn't do the last two steps properly. This button is required to set up Windows 11 without a Microsoft Account. On following page it will warn you about what you're doing, but we want to click on "Continue with limited setup".

Step 4: Continue with the rest of Setup normally.
You will now get a unique dialog asking you for your name instead of asking you to sign into a Microsoft account. The following page will ask for a password, you can leave it blank.

Step 5: Re-enable the Connection to Network Adapter
When you see the following screen, it is now safe to re-enable the connection to your network adapter, just simply do Step 1 again but you want to re-enable it.

I tried this while the mac versions are not yet available, but I can login and select a character, then get a very brief glimpse of FM (where my character is) but then it crashes. Anyone have any tips?

Okay, changing the display resolution to one that is native to the screen I am using (1920x1080p in my case) fixed the issue!

Hi - I have mac and followed all the instructions for running via VMware Fusion Pro. I'm able to get the client up and running but I'm dealing with some extreme lag. On one character I can log in and move around but the framerate is so low it's unplayable. I tried another character in the FM but the client just crashes - I'm guessing there's just too much stuff.

I've increased resources in the VM but it doesn't seem like it helped. Can anyone help me out? I'm pretty new
