Buying and scrolling equip(s) for INT. How to efficiently use your mesos.

    Intro

Let’s take a look at the most efficient ways to get more INT on your equip(s)... without breaking the bank. Useful for both mages, and characters that want INT gear for washing.
Prices fluctuate over time so we’ll be using $, $$, $$$, and $$$$ as arbitrary units of measurement to represent the relative cost of items in relation to each other.

If you're not familiar with washing I recommend reading section "6. Washing" in the Getting Started guide.

When you level up, you gain a bonus amount of MP based on your INT. This includes Base INT and INT from equip(s). As such, many players find it worthwhile to acquire INT equip(s), as the small bonus each level can help them create extra MP, used for both washing and higher efficiency of MP pots. This is especially valuable when washing classes such as warriors and buccaneers.

    11. Shields - $$$$
    12. Events

    1. Weapons ($)

Recommended: The weapon slot is one of the cheapest items to scroll for INT. The most popular option is the Maple Flag (Lvl 0) or Blue Maple Flag (Lvl 0). For the most budget conscious, the most basic Sword (Lvl 0) or Wooden Wand (Lvl 8) scrolled with a few 70% or 60% scrolls is going to be very cheap.

Scrolling: The scrolls for Sword for Magic Attack are very cheap. Try and land a 30% scroll or two before transitioning to a 70% or two and finishing with 60%'s. Alternatively, just play is safe with 2 or 3 70%'s and finish with 60%'s.

    Honorable Mentions:

For Mages Only: You'll likely want to use wands and staffs. The most popular options include: Green Paint Brush (Level 30), Maple Staff (Lvl 35), Yellow Umbrella (Lvl 40), Nocturnal Staff (Lvl 43), Maple Lama Staff (Lvl 43), Elemental Wand 1-4 (Lvl 70), Speargrave (Lvl 113, Priest Only), then an Elemental Wand 5-8 (Lvl 130). I recommend sticking to using 7x 60% or 70% scrolls until level 130. While 30% scrolls are $$$, the 60% scrolls are very very cheap thanks to all the clerics grinding at gs2.
    2. Capes ($)

Recommended: The cape slot is often the second cheapest item you'll scroll. The most popular option is an Old Raggedy Cape (Lvl 25) or Maple Cape (Lvl 20) scrolled for INT. At higher levels, the Crimsonheart Cloak (Lvl 90) becomes the go-to cape to use for washing, thanks to coming with 3-5 INT and having 8 slots.
Scrolling: Just use 60% scrolls. It's often more effective just to try your luck on landing 4+ of 5 60% scrolls on a few different capes than it is to try and land 30% scrolls. If you fail one or two of the first few scrolls, get a new cape and try again.
Honorable Mentions: Icarus Cape 1, 2 or 3 (Level 42, quest), and Yellow Adventurer Cape (Lvl 50).
For Mages Only: The Purple Adventurer Cloak (Lvl 50) and Purple Gaia Cape (Lvl 65) are great options, as they also come with a bonus to magic attack.

    3. Earrings ($)

Recommended: The most popular earrings to scroll are the Single Earring (Lvl 15), Amethyst Earrings (Lvl 15), or the Red Emerald Earrings (Lvl 30). You can wear the Single earring earlier, but the Red Emerald comes with +1-3 INT. There are also the Gold Emerald Earrings, but they're much more expensive and available much later.

    For Mages Only
: The Fallen Leaf Earrings come with +0-2 Magic Attack, and can be a cheaper alternative.
Scrolling: Unfortunately, 10% and 30% scrolls are $$$, so use 5x 60% scrolls. If you fail one or two of the first few scrolls, get a new pair of earrings and try again. If you pass 4 scrolls in a row, it may be worth the gamble to roll a 30% on the last slot thanks to the very high resale value

    4. Shoes ($)

Recommended: It's cheap and easy to get a pair of White Christmas Socks (Lvl 10) for +1-2 INT. Squishy Shoes (Level 30) from KPQ are another good option, but only if you enjoy KPQ. Sometimes you can find a deal on Yellow Snowshoes, while the traction is nice, they can be much, much more expensive.

For Mages Only: All of these require LUK.
Scrolling: N/A. Just scroll for speed.

    5. Pendants ($)

Recommended: Start with a Warm Muffler (Lvl 30), as these can be cheap, especially after the Christmas Event. For more $$, the Silver Deputy Star (Level 50) is a popular choice, and easy to re-use across characters. For those with $$$, upgrade to an Egged Horntail Necklace (Lvl 120). This service is more expensive with AFK (100m) and non-AFK (50m) options.
For Mages Only: At level 90+, you can buy the “MoN” service to get a Mark of Naricain (Lvl 110) which comes with an additional +9-11 magic attack. The service is a great deal, and there's no pre-req.

    Scrolling: N/A

    6. Eye Accessories ($$)

Recommended: Buy a Raccoon Mask (Lvl 35) or White Raccoon Mask (Lvl 45). The Broken Glasses (Level 45) from LPQ provide a budget option, but only if you enjoy LPQ.

Scrolling: Scroll with 7x 100% scrolls. There’s no reason to use the 60% or 70% scrolls. The 100% scrolls can be $$, they are a risk-free option, and a +7 scrolled mask is very easy to resell later.

    7. Overalls ($$)

Recommended: The Bathrobe (Lvl 20), available in both Male and Female. There's also the Sauna Robe (Lvl 30), available in both Male and Female, but besides style it offers little value over the classic Bathrobe.

    Scrolling
: These are $$ to scroll, but easy to resell. Try and land two or three 70% scrolls before putting on as many 60% scrolls as you want / can afford. If you're a gambler, bathrobes are a popular item to roll the dice on with 30% scrolls. You don’t have to use all 10 slots. Simply landing a few 60% or 70% scrolls is often good enough if you wish to save some $.

    Honorable Mentions:

For Mages Only: White/Brown Doros, Dark/Blood Chaos, Dark/Red/Green Starlight or Moonlight, or White/Dark Anakamoon. While these items don't retain their value as well as bathrobes, they come with some additional points of INT. Requires LUK.

    8. Helms (Early) ($$$)

Recommended: For the helmet slot, the most popular items are the Maple Bandanas (Lvl 0). Available in Blue and Red variants. There are two types of Bandanas for each color, for a total of 8 different items. Example: "Blue Maple Bandana" and the "Maple Bandana Blue" are two different items. The Purple Wisconsin (Lvl 20) is a great alternative for those on a budget. Alternatively, the Black Bandana and Green Bandana provide alternative options, though are often lower in supply.

Scrolling: Don't put too much time or effort into scrolling a helm. Land a 30% and a 70% or two, but 60% scrolls are $$$. You'll outgrow this item at level 50 when you upgrade to a Zakum Helm.

    9. Helms (50+) ($$)

Recommended: At level 50, get a [IMG] Zakum Helm (Lvl 50). Once you do the pre-quest, you can get the AFK Service (18m) or non-AFK Service (~10m). With +13-17 INT and 10 slots, this helm is an immediate upgrade from your previous helm. If on a budget, you might consider waiting until later to scroll your helm. Options include the Ravana Helm (Lvl 70), Targa (LUK), Targa (INT), Scarlion (DEX), or Scarlion (STR) at Level 90. Figure out which helm you are NOT going to use as your end-game helm, and scroll that one for INT. For example: a Night Lord who plans to run a lot of Zak will want to try their luck scrolling their Zakum helm for DEX, and scroll an alternative such as a Targa (INT) at Level 90 to be their INT helm.

Scrolling: The 70% scrolls are cheaper than the 60% scrolls. Try and land 2 or 3 of the 70% scrolls before finishing with as many 60% scrolls as you want / can afford. If you fail 2 or more of the slots within the first few attempts, throw the hat away and try again. Don’t worry about using all 10 slots. Simply landing a few scrolls is often good enough if you wish to save some $.

    10. Gloves ($$$)

Recommended: Here's where it starts to get $$$ expensive. The Yellow Work Gloves (Lvl 10) or Lunar Gloves (Lvl 10) with +1-2 INT are the most popular options. Though, it can be cheaper to wait until you can wear the Red Marker (Lvl 20) with +1-3 INT. The Green Mittens (Level 10) are another option, as they have a bonus sixth slot. The Goddess Wristband (Level 50) from OPQ gives an amazing +4 INT, but is untradeable, and only worth it if you enjoy running OPQ. (As of April 2024, the maplelegends.com/lib doesn't show the correct stats on the Goddess Wristband).

Scrolling: I like to scroll these gloves with a 70% or two, before finishing with 60% scrolls. If you pass 4 scrolls in a row, it may be worth the gamble to roll a 30% on the last slot thanks to the very high resale value. If you have a mage, it can be worth it to try 10% or 30% scrolls, however that’s an expensive option. Don't use 30% scrolls on your Goddess Wristband. Because the item isn't trade-able, that high price investment becomes a sunk cost.

For Mages Only: Dark Noel, Dark Mesana, Black Lutio, Dark Arten, Dark Penance, or Flamekeeper gloves. Require LUK. While these items don't retain their value as well as bathrobes, they come with some additional points of INT.

    11. Shields ($$$$)

Recommended: Now it's going to get $$$. The most basic item is a Stolen Fence (Level 5) or Pan Lid (Level 10). However, the Maple Shield (Lvl 20), comes with more slots, and is more expensive for that reason.

Scrolling: Shield for Magic Attack scrolls are very expensive, so the shield is one of the least efficient items to invest in. Scroll it with a 70% or two first, then finish with 60% scrolls. However do this as one of your last upgrades, or skip this slot as it may not be worth the cost.

For Mages Only: The Mystic Shield, Esther Shield, and finally $$$ for the Maple Magician Shield (Lvl 64) are other options.

    12. Rings

At level 50, do the quest for the Ellin Savior's Ring (Lvl 50). Most of the ETCs can be bought in the FM. Then at ? you can upgrade to Ephenia's Ring (Lvl ?). You can also get a lot of INT from your Monster Book Ring, but it might not be worth the investment at a low level.

    13. Events

MapleLegends runs seasonal events that often provide VERY good equip(s) for washing. These items will frequently give bonuses to all stats, ranging from +1 to +8, however they will require event participation, and expire after a fixed amount of time. Here are a few examples from past events that have since expired. Similar items are likely to be available from current and future events.

    Tips

Some general tips to keep in mind:
    1. Risk & Reward
    2. Efficiency
    3. Max Minus One
    4. Pricing
    5. Listed Items
    6. Liquid Assets
    7. Borrowing
    8. Leech

    1. Risk & Reward

Scrolling is gambling. Almost every item requires a choice as to your risk tolerance. The higher the risk, the greater the reward. If your Risk & Reward Tolerance is...
    • High - Take a gamble on using 10% and 30% scrolls.
    • Medium - Minimize risk with the use of 70% and 60% scrolls.
    • Low - Buy the scrolled item from another player.
Reminder: Never make a bet you can’t (financially or emotionally) afford to lose.

    2. Efficiency

Not all equip(s) are created equal when it comes to washing. Items like swords, capes, and earrings are relatively cheap to scroll for INT. Compared to gloves and shields which can be very expensive. You don't have to have an item in each slot. It may be more efficient to try to scroll a pair of earrings a few more times than it would be to try your luck on a single shield.

    3. Max Minus One

The best deals on unscrolled equips are most often the items that are just under what their maximum stats could be. For example, +2 INT Red Emerald earrings are going to be significantly cheaper than +3 INT Red Emerald Earrings. Seeing as these "max minus one" items are cheaper, you can often afford to try and scroll them multiple times for the same price.

Example II: The Crimsonheart Cloak with 5 INT can be bought for 40m, while the same cloak with 3 INT is 12m. For the same price, you can try 2 or 3 different times to scroll for a result you’re happy with.

    4. Pricing

What's the value of an item? To quote the expert economist fartsyfartsy, the price of any and every item is "market price". Thus, the most accurate way to check the value of something is to use an Owl of Minevera in the Free Market.

Grab a notebook. Use an Owl of Minivera from the Cash Shop. Make a list of the possible values for that given item, and write down the best price you can find for that value. Do this for a few days, and you'll end up with a very accurate chart of what items are being listed at.

When I was looking to buy a Bathrobe scrolled with INT, here’s what my notes looked like:
    10 13m
    12 25m
    13 28m
    14 30m
    15 40m
    16 60m
    17 75m
    18 85m
    19 110m
    20 180m

For more rare and expensive items, the #free-market section of the Discord offers some great historical data on what’s been sold.

Read more in "3. Making Money" of the Getting Started Guide

    5. Listed Items

Remember, items shown in an Owl of Minevera search, or on owlrepo.com represent items that are not (yet) sold. Since neither of these sources represent what items were actually bought, they tend to overestimate the actual price of a given item.

    6. Liquid Assets

These INT equip(s) are often a very 'liquid asset'. Historically, they have retained their value, and are fast and easy to sell when compared to other items. If you only need to use these equips on a single character, it’s often easiest to simply buy the items upfront, and resell the items when done. If you’re patient in finding decent deals, you can often recover most if not all of your original investment. Or turn a profit if you’re lucky.

    7. Borrowing

If available, borrow a friend's gear. It'll save you a considerable amount of time and meso. The only downside is that it requires friends, and those can’t be found with an owl.

    8. Leech

Buying equip(s) may not be the best use of your meso. After a certain level of investment, your mesos may be better spent on a few levels of leech to get the same amount of MP that your next incremental item upgrade would provide.
