Entry #112 - Check-in #11

We're a month into 2025. Working on the mages, and doing our best to push levels on the NL. We're getting close to wrapping up our current medium-term goals. We're even inching closer to our long-term goals every day. We're about 200k NX away from 30k HP which is wild to think about. Just leveling to 180 (our projected target level) is going to take longer than that.

We're still thinking about what we want to aim for in 2025. Both in-game, and in real-life. Not exactly sure yet, but some options we're considering is:

a. Reach level 180 on the Night Lord
b. Upgrade equip(s) on the Night Lord to value 40+ white scrolls
c. Some target for in-boss @dpm PRs...
c. We need to spend more time doing NT content as well...​

We'll see. Still reflecting on what we want to set as our next targets.

Entry #113 - Scrolling Zak

Personally, I love the Zak helm. To me, it's a symbol of the version of this game that inspired everything that made Legends what it is today. As such, we've scrolled a few Zak helms. I've shared "my approach" with guildies, so sharing it here as well! Disclaimer: This is how I do it. Your approach may vary.

How do we scroll Zak helms? The principle is "start strong". Pass 100% of the first few scrolls, then once you're at a good point, finish with 60%'s at your leisure. The nice part about Zak (compared to Ravana, Scar, and Targa) is that you'll naturally run quite a few Zaks over the life-time of any attacker. So you can be fast and loose in picking up, and discarding helms that aren't good enough.

It's easy to make mistakes when you only have a few minutes to make decisions after you've cleared Zak, and the clock is ticking before the drops despawn. As such, I like to have a "flowchart" so there's no decision making in the moment:

For mages...

We don't worry about LUK. Because 30% scrolls are so cheap, we can use them loosely. If you fail any of the listed line items, toss the helm and better luck on the next one!

If the Zak helm is 17 INT... (20% of helms)

1. Pass 4 of 4 of 70% scrolls. (24% chance)
2. Finish with 60% scrolls.​

If the Zak helm is 16 INT... (20% of helms)

1. Pass 1x 30% scroll.
2. Pass 3 of 3 of 70% scrolls.
3. Finish with 60% scrolls.​

If the Zak helm is 15 INT... (20% of helms)

1. Pass 2x 30% scroll.
2. Pass 2 of 2 of 70% scrolls.
3. Finish with 60% scrolls.​

For ranged attackers...

Now it's a little more complicated. Because the secondary stat is more valuable than it is on mages, we've got two stats that need to be considered. There's also less of a price difference between 60% and 70% scrolls.



If the Zak helm is 34 to 33 Total Stat... (12% of helms)

1. Pass 3 of 3 of 70% scrolls.
2. Finish with 60% scrolls.

If the Zak helm is 31 to 32 Total Stat... (28% of helms)

1. Pass 1 30% scrolls.

If the Zak helm is 30 Total Stat... (20% of helms)

1. Pass 2 of 2 of 30% scrolls.

I think there's merits to either side of this decision.

Personally, I find the look & feel of the Zakum Helm charming, so it's worth the cost to me.

The main benefit for the Zakum Helm is that it's done at no opportunity cost. You're very likely going to be running a fair amount of Zakum naturally, so in that sense the "opportunity cost" to acquire Zakum Helms is free. Compare that to Targa/Scar. Because the exp and drops of Targa/Scar are so low, most players won't naturally be running as much of that boss. So there's an argument to be made that Targa/Scar helms come at a higher opportunity cost (time invested that could have gone to something else). So, like many decisions in this game, it goes to what value you assign to your own time.

They're also not mutually exclusive. A lot of folks have made themselves a "good enough" Zakum helm, that they can use for a while until they've scrolled a better Targa/Scar helm.

In all, I'd say: "try them all, and see which of the helms turns into something good first". Since you're ultimately rate limited behind number of daily entries, I'd normally recommend just running all of the bosses: Zakum, Ravana, Targa/Scar... and just see which helm works out well.

Good call! It's been a while since I last tried that map. I'll give it another test.

 

We were excited to see LeonardoJF's new journal: the craziest journal (inspired by Getsmoked). Once again, trying to answer the question: "Is washing as a new player possible?". There have been a few players who have successfully proven this path to be do-able. However, the journals for such adventures haven't been as successful...

Entry #114 - I/L

Our I/L is now level 160! A few levels, and an upgraded Zak helm, pushes us to 1,203 TMA. And with that, marking off another medium-term goal as accomplished!

We'll continue putting levels on this character, as we're curious how well it will do in NT content. Looking forward to testing the viability of an NL+SE+IL trio-attacker setup.

Entry #115 - SE HTP

On our SE mule we finally upgraded to the Horntail Pendant. This let us swap around some equip(s). While nothing on this character is necessarily amazing, it's firmly "good enough" for use as a mule, and the occasional duo-attacker. We'll continue collecting exp from sweeping, and doing duo's like Zak/Krex/Rav, but likely won't make a concerted effort to push this character's progress for the time being.

Entry #116 - XS

We've been focusing on Kill 888 quests this event. Which means a lot of grinding out Ulu2, Squids, Cornians and a few other level 90+ mobs. We're at ~350 of our target of 500 raffle tickets. Fortunately for us, this timing works very well for leeching up our newest mage. We've pushed up to level 124, almost ready for some 5-6F leech. After advancing to Bishop, we acquired that sweet sweet Genesis thanks to fael's HTPQ / Life Roots service. And (of course), per tradition, immediately went to test it out on some innocent Leattys and penguins.

I know! Me too! I/L has such a great aesthetic, I'm excited to play the class more.

Imagine if I actually ran content. Instead of just focusing on making numbers go up!

 

Entry #117 - Hong Bao

The Lunar New Year event is wrapping up! Finished up the Ring of Passion quests on 8 characters. The 11/27 expiration date is too good to say no to. Most of the event was spend farming Kill 888 raffles at Ulu2, Squids, Cornians, and whatever other channels could be found.

We farmed 522 Hong Bao from Kill 888 quests. Given some rough price estimates, we think the EV per-ticket is around ~1.1-1.2m. Here are some of the rates we experienced.

Entry #118 - SE Washing

Just posted an Archer Washing Guide. While this post is mostly a re-run of our Night Lord guide, it has some additional information unique to Marksmen and Bowmasters.

The key part was highlighting how Bowmasters benefit from a larger MP pool. More so than other attackers. As part of this, expanding on how the Hurricane skill has some really unique mechanics that cause a higher rate of auto-pot failure. This is one of those topics that I hadn't previously found a good source on - so wanted to write one ourselves... as it's information I wish we had known when creating our SE mule.

Entry #120 - Wand 6

Our sixth mage can now equip their level 130 Elemental Wand 6. In addition to Genesis 30 (passed!), this opens up a few options. Most notably, 1-hit viks.

Leveling a Bishop from 120 to 130 can feel awkward. There's this strange level range, where you feel like you should be more effective... but Genesis doesn't really do enough damage to open up a ton of options. After so many levels of working towards Genesis, you want to use it!

Generally, I'll tell folks to go grind out CDs for leech/gacha, or even Ninja Castle #5 for scrolls during this level range. Get a few levels in, but more importantly, start saving up for Maple Warrior 20, and some decent INT Equip(s) that can push you up to viks at the least, and then ultimately 1-hit ulu2, then 1-hit skele.

But, that's not the only option. The other path is to push for exp. How so? Well, there were a few options we'd tried.

Leech - Simply buy your way through these levels. Straight up buying split Skele/Petri leech will get you ~18-24m/hr. Alternatively, at 125 you can do 5-6F, which in testing of my current 3-hit setup, could produce a decent 30m/hr on this character.

2-Hit Ulu2 / Nintos - Best for drops. The rotation can be tricky, and you get bounced around a lot. But as early as a few levels into 4th job you unlock your ability to 2-Hit some meta maps. Lots of pots. But a good mixture of exp and drops if you can find a channel.

2-Hit Skele Duo - Find another Bishop to duo-train with. This is the best path for exp. Most folks are able to mostly 2-hit skeles around ~125, even with an Elemental Wand 2. Lots of pots, but really fantastic exp.

And, a new setup that we were experimenting with...

On a second computer we wired up the foot-pedal. Booted up the newest Bishop, and put them at the top on The Dragon Nest Left Behind (right map). With our main Bishop 1-hitting the skeles at the bottom, the weaker Bishop at the top could hold down Genesis, getting in 2-3 casts/spawn. Tada! Now you have a self-duo setup for 2-hit Skeles, earning about 47m to 51m exp/hr. on a level 125+ Bishop.
