Completed Scheduled Database Maintenance - September 16, 2022

Hello Maplers,

We will be performing Scheduled database Maintenance on Friday September 16, 2022. It will last approximately until it's done. Upon completion, the game will be brought back online and service will be restored. Once restored, you can log in and play!

Time:
11:00 AM server time
(1:00 PM CEST)

What will be unavailable:

• All MapleLegends game servers and channels
• Merchants will be closed
• In-game name change requests using @changeign are automatically processed

* MapleLegends is doing database maintenance to clean up junk data that have plagued our system since 2014. We don't know how long it'll take, but hopefully it'll go fine.

Ugh, okay it seems we are okay enough to point we have zero complaints for past 30~ minutes.

First for the bit of information that you all care about:

The server have been back online

The event have been extended and will now end Sunday, September 25th, 23:59:59 servertime

Now for the bit of information that some of you care about:

This database cleanup maintenance is the most stressful I have felt in a really long time.

1) While we did many checks to make sure ONLY garbage data gets deleted, it's still a very nervous wracking situation due to how freckle and old our database is
2) During the night our website crashed. This wasn't just a normal website crash, the whole database locked up
3) In the morning we tried for 2 hours recover the frozen database, were forced to reboot the server
4) The database was constantly crashing upon trying to recover because it didn't like how it was killed. This was peak stress
5) After a lot of messing around it came back up, and everything (progress wise) was intact.
6) We were back to "we hope this cleanup have no false positives" < we are here now

So here's the good news: We have cleaned 90~gb of DB garbage overnight

So here's the bad news: There's still 300gb~ or so garbage data left

Now those experienced are probably asking themselves: What the fuck is all that garbage then? The only answer I can give to that is this: Peak OdinMS (base server emulator) trash that build up for past 7 years

So here's the deal if things remain fine: We probably will do a similar maintenance next month or so, and slowly but surely we will clean up all this god awful stuff. Even though 90GB seems very minimal from the total, this still helps a lot. Also, we know kind of why the DB did freeze, and will make sure it doesn't occur again. Furthermore, when we have cleaned this completely we will start doing this way more frequent so this is no longer need at all.
