Hi! I'm a level 60 I/L wizard which is the highest level I've ever gotten to. I returned to maplelegends after like a couple years, started this character, and got to 60 in just a few weeks (while also trying other characters and classes). I used the wonderful "exact guide for 1-35 in under 6 hours" post as a way of trying lots of things, but it seems like quests that REALLY help in leveling become very sparse after about 40, so I've kinda just been poking around, grinding at random spots, and eventually found the ghost ship to be the fastest, getting about 4 levels in a couple hours with the help of a GM buff and a random cleric I ran into. I wanna know if there's more quests or anything I'm missing that might help me along or give me some sense of direction, because I'm worried I'll just fall off and lose interest again if the expected/best option is just buying TONS of MP potions and going in circles fighting slimeys for the next 10+ levels I'd love to get to the next job since I've never seen any of that, even when I played in 2007

I recommend doing the quests from Muirhat in Nautilus. You have to do pre-quest (which you did when you strictly followed the obove mentioned guide) he gives you 3 quests starting at lv 55. "Eliminate the Stone Golems", "Eliminate the Dark Stone Golems" and "Eliminate the Mixed Stone Golems".

All these give you juicy xp. Other than that, there should pop up the KREX preQ in Boat Quay and new Quests in Korean Folk Town.

    Happy Mappling!

Congrats! You're getting into the fun levels for I/L!

After level ~40, you're noticing that there are fewer and fewer quests with worthwhile exp. At your levels, the game is just about chilling, finding parties to grind with, and grinding some monsters. Use super megaphones to broadcast for players to grind with.

Do you have money? Spending a few mil on leech is often a great way to "buy some progress" if you're feeling stuck in a rut!

But, most importantly: Set a goal! What do you want to achieve? I'd recommend something like "I want to be level 120 to get my ultimate" or, "I want to max [skill]".

Honestly, my SUPER long term goal is to see all the content/fight everything at least ONCE! My shorter term goal is to get to the last job and have the skills and stats to support making any other character. My slightly shorter term than that is to fight Zak since it's been a boss I've heard about for almost 20 years and never fought myself, and my shortest term goal is to hit 70 and see what the spells and stuff are like for I/L mage! :O
Maybe I should try joining a guild or something with active players to help me along

When I made my first character (I/L mage) I also remembered in the old Maplestory 50-80 were pretty rough levels, as nearly everything gave the same HP/EXP ratio and it would amount to 33%/hr at good times. 2nd job in general feels this way at around this level, to be honest. It's true quests start diminishing returns at around level 40, but those Muirhat quests did do some wonders for like one level or so, and there's quite a bit of content in questing around. You have Thunder Bolt, so naturally you'll progress a lot faster than most other classes. You'll be rewarded with a usable Ice Strike by the time you reach level 75ish or so if you keep on it, which I think is one of the best skills in the game. Try to find something to do, whether partying with other players at Mysterious Path 3, Orbis PQ, or even questing. I found that there's loads of story content at Korean Folk Town, Mu Lung, Herb Town, and Magatia, giving some really cool lore for worldbuilding. In fact I'm sure they have quests that go past level 70, with Magatia I think capping at around 90 with one of the best stories I've seen on Maple so far? It did get me up to high 60s doing that and I grinded off with some people afterwards at Mysterious Path 3. El Nath's Alcaster also has a really long quest for his secret tome or whatever which eventually ends with him opening up a shop for you to buy some rare items like All Cure Potions. If grinding tires you, I'd just set some goals like 'I'll level up once per day' or 'I'll get 25% this day' or something.

When I started playing here I thought this way, always try to get some exp a day to see progression, and it went like this from 1-200, these levels are a bit boring, you can try the Quests and go taipei, or vikerola, the latter uses a lot of pot, but maybe in taipei it would be better

Don't forget, every mob you kill, every card you loot, every quest you complete, it all brings you closer to your next goal :)

Don't sweat the optimal stuff too much, experiment with finding fun maps to grind or different mini goals to set for yourself.

If you riek numbers and some optimal stuff,

can start looking for 125% lightning-boosted Wand 4. At lv70, you will still be using Thunder Bolt as your main mobbing skill and Slimy, being lightning-weak, is gona melt like butter.

Ice Strike at some point will be able to hit both platforms from the top, but it’s cast speed is too slow for my liking. I only used it on Gallopera paired with 125% ice-boosted Wand 3 after maxing Ice Strike and lv11 Spell Booster, with lv3 Element Amp(pre-req for booster) at lv85.

Alternatively, you can consider maxing Element Amp first for 140% boost to Thunder Bolt, on top of 125% from Wand 4. Thunder Bolt is 60 base -> Amp to 84, while Ice Strike is 90 base -> 101.7 (from lv3 Amp), but Thunder Bolt has faster cast speed of 720ms vs Ice Strike’s 930ms after Booster2. It’s quite comparable after scaling Thunder Bolt’s cast speed to Ice Strike at 108.5 vs 101.7 but without the ability to freeze. This opens you up to Vikerola, which is lightning-weak, at lv84 after having lv11 on Spell Booster.

    HP:EXP ratio:
    Gallopera - 43,000:5,000 (8.6:1)
    Vikerola - 36,000:4000 (9:1)
    Vikerola lightning-weakness - 24,000:4000 (6:1)

6:1 means every 6 HP gives 1 EXP, so the lower the HP the better.

If you are okay with faster levelling at the cost of burning pots, Kid Mannequins are pretty good for their HP:EXP ratio at 8,500:1,540 (5.52:1), as compared to Slimy’s 5,800:500 (11.6:1). But if we take into consideration Slimy’s lightning-weakness, we can scale effectively to 3,867:500 (7.734:1), with Kid Mannequins still being 40% better.

    IMG_5732.jpeg

    Slimy took 40min from lv59 to lv60.
Kid Mannequin took 27min from lv61 to lv62.

TLDR; depending on which you’d prefer to grind on later,

Max Ice Strike first, lv85 -> Gallopera
    - Ice Strike, lv3 Amp, lv11 Booster
    - Wand 3
    - very little movement around the map
    - use minimal pots as mobs will be frozen

Max Element Amp first, lv84 -> Vikerola
    - Thunder Bolt, lv30 Amp, lv11 Booster
    - Wand 4
    - some movement around the map
    - better HP:EXP ratio considering lightning-weakness
    - burns more pots

    I riek numbers.

Great news!! I got my I/L wizard to 73 and I have a spearman to 63!!! A few key things to remember for how I play are that PQs give a TON of experience but are kinda stressful (so maybe I need to find a group that communicates well) and that questing is just satisfying in general, so I should explore wherever they lead me! My next big goal is a zak helm for my warrior, and then I guess to eventually explore more areas I never have before! 4th job seems insanely far off, but I'm having fun, so we'll see!

Generally you can do party quests, like opq around that level. But you are on the right track with ghost ship and once you get to lvl 68 you should go to cd's because the xp there is crazy fast. I got my dark from 75-120 at cd's alone. Minus some random time spent at himes or skele.

That would be awesome but you don't have to! :O (also my discord is Codybones and I would love help with a zak helm, but I can probably pay you!!)
